Customs officers have seized 63,000 contraband cigarettes found on a Maltese launch which arrived from Libya yesterday.

The cigarettes were found in a surprise raid on the vessel in Grand Harbour.

€12,500 had been due in customs and other duties.

The boat and the cigarettes were seized pending further investigation.
