Commuters driving through Valletta next week have been warned to avoid St Dominic street until Wednesday morning. 

The street will be closed from 9.00am on Monday until 8.00pm on Tuesday evening while Transport Malta replaces part of Strait street's underground services. Road works will mean closures between Republic and Old Bakery street. 

The works form part of the ongoing Strait street paving project.  Motorists are to follow the temporary signage installed, proceed with caution and follow instructions by officials on site.

After years of neglect, Strait street is receiving a facelift as part of its regeneration for Valletta's 2018 European Culture Capital project. 

The street received its own artistic director, Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, in April 2015. At the time of his appointment, Dr Schembri Bonaci said that he wanted to foster an "alternative culture" of jazz, cabaret, theatre and urban culture running alongside the more traditional cultural activities in Valletta.
