€1.4m invested in second phase of the Wied Inċita project in Attard

Project already created 20,000-square-metre open recreational space

Around €1.4 million has been invested in the second phase of the Wied Inċita project in Attard, which will see the rehabilitation of a further 7,000 square metres as part of a public park spanning 90,000 square metres.

Environment Minister Miriam Dalli visited the ongoing works carried out by Ambjent Malta, which is transforming a formerly neglected area into an accessible space for families.

The project builds on the first phase, which created a 20,000-square-metre open recreational space.

The works include the restoration and rebuilding of rubble walls, landscaping, pruning of existing vegetation, new irrigation systems, improved walking routes, outdoor furniture, recreational facilities, and enhanced safety and accessibility.

Hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs suited to Malta’s climate will also be planted, including oak, pine, carob, myrtle and chaste trees. These will be complemented by Mediterranean shrubs and aromatic plants.

Particular emphasis is being placed on strengthening biodiversity by creating habitats that provide food, shelter and breeding areas for insects, pollinators, birds and reptiles.
