Malta’s fleet of public buses is set to grow over the coming months, with 33 new vehicles expected to be operational by the summer.

A technical team from Malta Public Transport visited a manufacturing plant in Turkey this week to ensure the buses were being built according to specifications. The team was led by MPT chairman Felipe Cosmen.

“These buses will have the latest safety and emission technology with Euro 6 engines which will make our fleet one of the youngest in Europe,” MPT general manager Konrad Pulé said.

The 12 metre-long buses will all have two doors and feature improved on-board driver information systems to give drivers and MPT maintenance teams better, more up-to-date, diagnostics information.

Bus passengers increased by seven per cent last year, with Transport Malta having noted that public transport was slowly but surely becoming more alluring.
