Five pro-rectors are to be appointed to help rector-elect Alfred J. Vella run the University of Malta.

Joe Cacciottolo (academic affairs), Carmen Sammut (students and staff affairs and outreach), Saviour Zammit (research and knowledge transfer), Godfrey Baldacchino (international development), and Tanya Sammut-Bonnici  (strategic planning and enterprise) have all been handed pro-rector positions.

Prof. Vella will be appointing the pro-rectors when he takes up office on July 1.

Prof. Cacciottolo is currently coordinator for the Humanities, Medicine and Science Programme (HUMS) under the aegis of the Faculty of Arts.

Dr Sammut is the head of the Department of International Relations in the Faculty of Arts.

Prof. Zammit is an associate professor in the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of ICT and Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation (CEBI).

Prof. Baldacchino is a professor in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts, and chairman of the Centre for Labour Studies.

Prof. Sammut-Bonnici is the head of the Department of Marketing in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.
