Races from the Autocross Modified and Standard Classes made up the fourth event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti Championship last Sunday.

In Autocross Modified, Godfrey Gauci dominated the day’s heats to book his place on the starting line of the Class A final.

Christian Mark Galea, in his Fiat Ritmo, Josef Abela and Matthew Borg, both in an Opel Nova, Noel Zammit, in his Fiat Punto and Malcolm Borg, driving his Opel Corsa, also qualified for the nine-lap final.

It was Abela who held off his rivals to win the Class A race. Galea and Borg followed in second and third respectively with Gauci unable to build on his fine driving in the heats as he finished fourth. Matthew Borg took fifth place ahead of Zammit.

The Class B finalists were Josef Grech, at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta, Joseph Micallef, Philip Vella and Jonathan Camilleri, all driving an Opel Corsa, the Suzuki Swift of Ivan Birmingham and Jurgen Mallia in a Honda Civic.

After taking an early lead, Grech stayed in front to secure first place ahead of Micallef and Camilleri.

Birmingham and Mallia finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Autocross Standard class, Traydon Bailey, in a Ford Ka, was first past the finish line in the seven-lap final followed by Karl Scicluna (Peugeot 206) who received a warning from the referee and flag marshal for making contact with Bailey’s car as he tried to overtake.

Samuel Bezzina (VW Polo) and Quin Vella (Opel Nova) completed the top-four order.

This Sunday, the Trials bikers within the ASMK will cross over to Gozo to participate in a fund-raising event organised by the Gozo Motocross Association.

The event, called ‘Xtreme Trials and Enduro’, is being staged in Munxar with the collaboration of the Munxar Local Council, the Minister for Gozo and the Gozo Sports Board.

EGM on December 21

Meanwhile, the ASMK has called an Extraordinary General Meeting for December 21 after a number of officials resigned from their positions in recent weeks.

Edgar Xuereb left his post as treasurer of the ASMK and the Autocross section, while Clayton Camilleri and Edward Ciantar resigned as representative and secretary of Motocross respectively.

The ASMK said in a statement that it is currently receiving nominations for the vacant posts ahead of the December 21 EGM at Villa Bighi in Kalkara, starting at 7.30pm.

The ASMK thanked the outgoing officials for their service.
