We refer to your report (July 10) following our application for a Mepa permit to construct a supermarket in Xewkija.

Contrary to what is suggested in the report, the building envelope of the envisaged supermarket, parking facility and access roads, are entirely within the building development zone, in an area which is designated for permissible mixed-use activities (GZ-CMRC – 12) in the local plan approved by Parliament.

No building whatsoever will be carried out on land which is outside the development zone (ODZ).

Part of the adjoining land is indeed ODZ but Lidl will not be carrying out any building on this site, which will be retained as a green area.

Editor’s note: The report quoted directly from Mepa records, which list the whole development as ODZ.
