An England supporter was yesterday charged with attacking a police constable who intervened to calm a heated argument between him and his brother-in-law who sides with Italy.

The incident happened at a Marsascala bar on Sunday evening following the England-Italy Euro 2012 match in which Italy beat England in a penalty shootout.

Clinton Attard, 30, of Fgura, pleaded not guilty to threatening, assaulting and slightly injuring PC Christopher Seychell.

He was also charged with disobeying the police, breaching the peace and relapsing.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted.
