Anton Grech was recently officially welcomed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of the UK during a ceremony held in Brighton, after he was included in the new list of Fellows of the College last January.

Dr Grech graduated as Doctor of Medicine from the University of Malta in 1992. He did his postgraduate training in psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and Maudsley Hospital in London, where he worked as clinical-academiclecturer.

He has an M.Sc. in psychiatry (University of London) and has carried out research on dual diagnosis (especially the association between cannabis and psychosis) and on the genetics of schizophrenia.

He has published papers in major international psychiatric journals, and also presented and chaired internationalconferences.

While working at Maudsley Hospital, he coordinated the largest family study in Europe on the biological markers of schizophrenia.

In 2008, he was chosen as oneof 30 European scientists tobe featured in the book Portraitsof Science; Scientists ofTomorrow, published by the European Federation of Pharma-ceutical Industries and Associations, to commemorate its 30th anniversary.

Dr Grech currently works as consultant psychiatrist at the Department of Psychiatry in Malta. He is also senior lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Malta and member of various national boards and commissions.

He is married to Marla née Vassallo, and they have three children.
