Many will agree that over the past 30 years Malta has made tangible progress in many areas. Sadly, TV licensing is not one of them.

I will not go into the merits or otherwise of having a TV licensing regime. I simply appeal to the powers that be to bring the related procedures up to date.

For example, the policies of this bastion of bureaucracy dictate that should one replace one’s TV set, one must take time off to personally visit their offices in Valletta to declare on oath that the old set is inoperable.

They very kindly accept the vendor’s word that he sold me a replacement TV; similarly they should accept a notice from the vendor indicating that my old TV has been scrapped.
