‘Collect your vote, keep convincing people until the last second’ – Robert Abela
Malta 'best in class' on economic growth, prime minister says
Robert Abela on Friday kept up his rallying cry for people to collect their voting documents and put their faith in Labour.
Addressing a Labour rally in Gozo, the prime minister urged supporters to keep on convincing people “until the very last second” to get out and vote.
Malta heads to the polls on May 30 with surveys indicating that Labour enjoys a healthy majority over the Nationalist Opposition. Early voters can cast their vote on Saturday May 23.
Abela reminded supporters that Labour’s manifesto contains over 100 proposals for Gozo.
He vowed that a Labour government will ensure that connectivity between Gozo and Malta is increased by 25%, through the introduction of new ferries and free trips for foot passengers on the Gozo channel.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, Abela said Labour’s plans for Gozo have not been generated by an AI chatbot.
The Labour leader said the European Commission’s spring forecast has shown Malta to be “best in class” when it comes to economic growth, employment creation and unemployment rates.
He said this forecast was another certificate of Labour’s economic leadership, and a certificate of the credibility enjoyed by Malta abroad.
Abela contrasted Malta’s economic situation with the stagnation being faced by large EU economies as he noted how geopolitical challenges being faced by Europe are impacting the EU’s biggest economies.
By contrast, Malta’s government is able to shield people from rising fuel and energy prices, Abela said.
He added Malta’s status as “best in class” is entirely up to voters during the upcoming election, as the choice is between a Labour team that offers a clear guarantee of success, or an Opposition leader who does not know what an economic forecast is.
