Alex Borg says PN wants politics built on positivity and unity

Opposition leader Alex Borg told supporters in Żabbar that he wanted politics built on positivity and bringing people together, saying that even those who disagreed with the PN could work with it. 

Borg was addressing supporters on Tuesday evening as he introduced the Nationalist Party’s four candidates for the second district: Bernice Bonello, John Baptist Camilleri, Leone Sciberras and Stephen Spiteri.

Borg told the crowd that whenever the PN presented proposals, including their costings, the Government responded with attacks, then copied the ideas.

Borg told the crowd the country needed to move away from attacking one another and towards a more positive political culture.

 “I got into politics so that the politics of hate and negativity would not exist anymore.”

“Mudslinging is the politics of the past,” he said.

Borg said he wanted a politics that brought people together, whether they be Nationalist Party supporters, ex nationalist party supporters, Labour Party supporters, or anyone who might not agree with his politics. 

“Even if you don’t agree with us, you can work with us! Castille will be open for everyone!” he declared.

While Borg stressed the importance of a positive campaign, he and other speakers accused the Government of copying the opposition proposals.

Borg cited free cancer medication, the child trust fund and the removal of inheritance tax as examples.

“We announce a proposal, they say it is bad and unworkable, then when they see people want it, they try to copy it, but they don't copy it well,” Borg said.

During the event, Borg also reiterated proposals announced earlier on Tuesday aimed at members of the disciplined forces, including the police, the armed forces, the Civil Protection Department, LESA officers, correctional officers and Transport Malta enforcement officers.

“I want to see parents have peace of mind that when their children walk home, they will be safe.”

The proposals include the granting of both a salary and a service pension to service personnel who opt to continue to work after 25 years of service, and improved pensions.

They also include the setting up an “injustices board” to hear grievances and award compensation, as well as the reopening of police stations in villages.
