This is Alex Borg's shadow cabinet
Opposition leader unveils the shadow minister and spokesperson portfolios he has assigned his MPs
Updated 8.35am
Opposition leader Alex Borg announced his shadow cabinet on Friday morning.
Borg's team is made up of 28 shadow ministers and eight spokespeople from among the Nationalist Party parliamentary group elected in the last general election.
The party said the group is made up of MPs "who bring with them a blend of experience and fresh energy, and is structured in a way that enables the PN to present itself as an alternative government ready to lead our country towards a better future".
The dual system of shadow ministers and spokespersons is new: shadow ministers have been assigned portfolios that mirror those assigned to their counterparts in government, while spokespersons have more focused sectoral responsibilities.
Adrian Delia remains responsible for finance and Beppe Fenech Adami continues to oversee foreign affairs for the party. There was also no change in portfolio for Joe Giglio (Justice) or Stephen Spiteri (Health), among others. Mark Anthony Sammut has Environment added to his previous portfolio (Energy).
But many appointments are new: new MP Conrad Borg Manche has been made shadow minister for Home Affairs, with Darren Carabott reassigned responsibilities to shadow the economy.
The party's deputy leader, Alex Perici Calascione, has been made shadow minister for tourism.
Frank Tabone wins the battle to be made the party's spokesperson for Gozo while Julian Borg, a new MP who presented the party's metro proposal, is made shadow minister for infrastructure.
Rebekah Borg has been made shadow minister for planning while Jerome Caruana Cilia takes over the education portfolio, with Justin Schembri reassigned to the arts, culture and national heritage.
