More Aptamil baby formula recalls
The warning follows similar recalls earlier this year
Health authorities have issued another warning about Aptamil baby milk formula that is not safe for consumption.
The warning follows similar ones published earlier this year by major manufacturers of infant formula, including Nestle and Danone, who issued a raft of recalls across Europe over cereulide fears.
In Malta, a health warning was previously issued for batches of Nestle SMA brand formula, and various batches of formula manufactured by Cow & Gate, Aptamil and Bebelac.
On Friday, the food safety and security authority said the possible presence of cereulide makes the following unsafe for consumption: Aptamil Nutribiotik 2, which comes in containers of 830g and has lot numbers and expiry dates 111470641/21-07-2026 and 111475576/30-07-2026.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of bacillus cereus. It is highly heat stable, meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or boiling water.
If consumed, it can lead to a rapid onset of food poisoning symptoms.
Symptoms caused by this toxin may include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps.
The authority warned consumers that the product should not be consumed and are being asked to dispose of it or return it to the seller.
