The Archbishop this morning called for an inclusive society where people with disabilities would have access to the care they needed.

Mgr Charles Scicluna was celebrating Mass at the Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi, launching the yearly Feast of Generosity.

More than €206,000 were collected by 8.15pm.

The home needed to remain - as it has been for the past 50 years - a place that bore witness to compassion and to the belief that everyone had a place in society, he said during Mass.

“Let’s pray so that people with a disability find the place they deserve in our society and that they find the care that this house bears witness to.”

Recalling the Jubilee of Mercy being marked by the Catholic Church this year, Mgr Scicluna urged people to show mercy with each other and remember those with special needs.

This is the 20th edition of the charity event organised by RTK4Charity, which is held every year on January 1.

People are being urged to visit the home in Siġġiewi to meet the residents, take a look at the residence’s capital projects, and help raise the much needed funds.

Sponsored by APS Bank, the event kicked off at 9am with Mass, followed by entertainment under a large tent at the premises.

There is also an ongoing auction of works donated by more than 75 artists that are being displayed at the home. People can bid for the works on www.dtpauction.com.

Meanwhile, those who cannot make it to the home can follow the event on the main TV stations.

Donations can be made at the home in Siġġiewi, at Radio RTK studios in Blata l-Bajda or by calling 5160 2012 (€10), 5170 2013 (€15), 5180 2014 (€25) or texting 5061 8922 (€7).
