Baby Noah facing an 'uphill road', says father of toddler who fell in pool

Simon Mizzi asked public for prayers

The father of the toddler who fell into a swimming pool on Monday has urged people to pray for his son as his family faces an "uphill" struggle to save the baby.

Simon Mizzi took to Facebook on Tuesday afternoon after the incident involving 16-month-old Noah.

"We've had two small miracles in these past few hours but the road is uphill and will continue to be uphill for a long time," he said.

Noah is in a serious condition after falling into a pool in a private residence in Gozo on Monday.

Police were alerted to the incident in a residence in Triq Ġnien Imrik in Xagħra at 7.30pm on Monday.

The toddler, found unconscious, was given assistance by a medical team before being taken to Gozo General Hospital. From there, he was then transported by helicopter to Mater Dei Hospital.

His father conveyed his appreciation for the outpouring of messages saying he could not reply to all of them.

He appealed to the public for continued prayers, specifically asking for intercession to Our Lady of Ta' Pinu for Baby Noah first, and then for the family.

"That's all we're asking for," he wrote.

"We are ready to do everything as we always have."

He also requested support and courage for his wife, Joanna, himself, and their three other children.

Gozo MP and PN leadership candidate Alex Borg is a friend of the family and was among the many people expressing their support.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family of little Noah, who is currently fighting for his life after yesterday's tragic accident," he said. Simon Mizzi is an aide in Borg's campaign.

Magistrate Simone Grech is leading an inquiry.
