Bail for man who allegedly injured ex and threatened her
The two allegedly argued over money she claims he owes her
A 49-year-old man was granted bail after pleading not guilty to injuring his ex during an argument that erupted after she asked him for money she claims he owes her.
The alleged incident took place on Sunday at Ta’ Qali.
Apart from causing her slight injuries, the man was also charged with breaching a court sentence handed down by Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici in January. Back then, he had been handed a one-year prison term suspended for three years.
The man, from Paola, was further accused of threatening the same former partner on June 12, as well as during the preceding weeks and months, including through the use of electronic communication devices.
The defence requested bail, noting that the accused had also sustained injuries.
Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo upheld the request, granting bail against a €10,000 personal guarantee and ordering the man to sign at the Paola police station once a week.
The prosecution was led by Inspector Sherona Buhagiar, while lawyers Franco Debono and Matthew Xuereb appeared for the accused.
