Natalino Caruana De Brincat and Renata Farrugia appointed magistrates

Office of the President chose the two new magistrates from a list presented by the Committee on Judicial Appointments

Natalino Caruana De Brincat and Renata Farrugia have been appointed magistrates following a public call by the justice minister.

The Office of the President said in a statement that the two had been chosen by Myriam Spiteri Debono following a process outlined by the Constitution of Malta.

The president said she had been presented with a report, dated May 18, issued by the Committee on Judicial Appointments following a meeting of the same committee that had evaluated 17 expressions of interest for the appointment of two magistrates.

The report listed three proposed magistrates: Caruana De Brincat, Farrugia and Elizabeth Quintano.

Spiteri Debono chose Caruana De Brincat and informed the committee of her choice on June 9.

The following day, the Secretary of the Committee presented her with a second report with the names of three candidates who, in the opinion of the committee, were the most suitable and deserving for the appointment of a new magistrate.

The proposed names were Farrugia, Quintano and John Mary Vella. From the list, the president chose Farrugia.

On Monday, Spiteri Debono congratulated the newly appointed magistrates of the inferior courts and thanked the members of the appointments committee for its work.
