BBC Concert Orchestra returns for concert of ABBA, Bee Gees songs
The 70-piece orchestra will perform alongside a selection of singers
The BBC Concert Orchestra will return to Malta for the seventh time for a concert celebrating the music of chart-topping pop legends ABBA and the Bee Gees.
As in previous editions, the concert taking place at the Granaries in Floriana will be recorded and later broadcast on BBC Radio 2.
The performance will be presented by UK presenter Rylan Clark, and feature the 70-piece orchestra and a selection of singers including Maltese performer Kevin Paul Calleja.
The Tourism Ministry described the concert as a “unique spectacle celebrating the music of two legendary groups ... in a spectacular one-night concert at the Granaries in Floriana”, in a statement announcing the event.
“With a repertoire filled with hits that have remained popular over the years, the evening promises a high-level musical experience and an atmosphere of entertainment for the whole family.”
Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said events of the concert’s calibre were “an important part of our vision to continue diversifying Malta’s tourism product” while strengthening the country's position as a “destination offering quality experiences throughout the year”.
The concert offers a unique experience to Maltese audiences while generating economic activity and raising Malta’s profile on the international stage, he said.
MTA Chairman Charles Mangion said the authority was proud to welcome the orchestra back to Malta.
Last year’s edition saw the orchestra perform music celebrating pop songs from the 1980s.
Special bus routes have been announced to help those attending Saturday's concert get home smoothly.
