Boxer charged over fake certificates living 'irregularly' in Malta since 2008
Scott Dixon failed to renew his residence permit after he was arrested
Champion boxer Scott Dixon, who has been charged after presenting a series of fake medical certificates to justify breaching bail conditions, has been “irregularly” living in Malta.
The last time the 48-year-old Scottish boxing trainer renewed his residence permit was in 2007.
This emerged from a testimony given by an Identità representative on Friday morning in criminal proceedings against Dixon and psychiatrist Mark Xuereb.
The pair stand accused in connection with forged medical certificates which were presented by Dixon to justify incidents when he failed to sign his bail book. They deny the charges.
Dixon, who has been out on bail over a 2009 cannabis haul, had failed to sign the bail book for some time. He had been granted bail against a €15,000 deposit and a €25,000 personal guarantee.
On Friday morning, the man’s bail conditions were presented in court, including subsequent applications requesting variations to the original decree.
An Identità representative then took the stand and told the court that the man had been living irregularly in Malta since 2008. It emerged that during his stay, he failed to renew his residence permit.
It is understood that the man did not renew his permit after he was arrested in 2009, when his personal documents were seized by the police.
The case continues.
Magistrate Leonard Caruana presided.
Police inspector Darryl Farr prosecuted.
Lawyer Matthew Xuereb assisted Xuereb. Lawyers Franco Debono and Anthea Bonnici Zammit appeared for Dixon.
