A celebration of all things Maltese sausage on July 31

Maltese Sausage Day will return to the Public Abattoir in Marsa on July 31, with the Agriculture Ministry using the annual event to promote locally produced food and traditional Maltese products.

The event, which starts at 8pm and is being organised in collaboration with private sector partners, will focus on the Maltese sausage, a traditional product that forms part of the country's culinary heritage.

Visitors will be able to sample a variety of dishes featuring the Maltese sausage, while local agro-food producers will also exhibit and sell their products. The programme will include live music, a children's area and family activities.

Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo said the initiative formed part of the government's ongoing efforts to support local producers and strengthen Malta's agri-food sector.

"By choosing local products, we are directly supporting our farmers, livestock breeders and producers. The Maltese sausage is a traditional product and forms part of our identity and culture," he said.

Public Abattoir director Stefan Cachia said the event would also showcase the work carried out at the facility in recent years, including infrastructure investment and initiatives aimed at preserving and developing traditional meat products.

He said the abattoir was also investing in research and the development of new meat products to support the local meat industry.

The ministry has invited the public to attend the event, which combines food, entertainment and local agricultural products.
