Cement mixer driver killed in Siġġiewi road accident

The accident happened near Dar tal-Providenza chapel

A man has died after the cement mixer he was driving crashed into an electricity pole in Siġġiewi.

The accident happened at 6pm on Friday afternoon when a 60-year old man from Żebbuġ was driving along Triq tal-Providenza near the Dar tal-Providenza chapel and crashed the Isuzu cement mixer into the electricity pole.

Police and first responders including the Civil Protection Department were deployed on the scene.

The driver was certified dead on site.

A magisterial inquiry is being conducted by Magistrate Joe Mifsud who has appointed several experts to assist him.

This is the third road fatality this year. Last month a 70-year old woman died two days after being hit by a car in Mġarr. A 44-year old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Għajnsielem in February.
