Chris Cardona wants to join Birkirkara FC committee
Fans frustrated by club's failure to challenge for domestic honours this season
Former minister Chris Cardona has been approached by Birkirkara FC members to help out the football club, and he confirmed he is willing to join the administration committee.
Fans are growing frustrated as the team yet again failed to challenge for the main honours last season, and Cardona confirmed with Times of Malta that he is keen on helping out.
The Stripes have endured a very disappointing 2025-2026 season as the four-time Malta champions failed to challenge for the major domestic honours.
Birkirkara have missed out on a place in the Top Six of the Closing Round of the YoHealth Malta Premier League, while they were knocked out of the FA Trophy following a 3-1 defeat to Valletta in the semi-finals.
Sources close to the club told Times of Malta that the Stripes’ disappointing campaign has seen an increasing call for change from the team’s fans to the club’s top hierarchy, and Cardona confirmed that he is ready to step in and help the club.
“Yes, I can confirm that I am keen to contribute to the future of Birkirkara FC,” Dr Cardona said.
“I have been a member of Birkirkara FC for many years, to be precise, before the appointment of Victor Zammit as club president,” Dr Cardona said.
