Coast Road briefly closed after multiple crashes

Motorcyclist and driver injured

A motorcyclist and a car driver were injured in a collision caused by chain reactions, which caused the coast road to be briefly closed on Sunday morning.

The police explained that a Subaru Impreza driven by a 41-year-old man from Għaxaq crashed into a wall and stopped in the middle of the lane. The driver was unhurt.

A number of cars were forced to stop because they could not go through. A Suzuki motorcycle tried to avoid them, went out of control and crashed into a crash barrier opposite, injuring its 36-year-old motorcyclist.

At the same time five vehicles in the same lane crashed into each other – an Isuzu van, a Mazda 2, a Toyota Passo, a Toyota Vitz and a  Porsche. The driver of the Vitz, a 29-year-old man from St Paul's Bay, was injured.

The two injured men were hospitalised with grave injuries. The other motorists were unhurt.

The police are investigating.
