Former PN election candidate dies
Josephine Xuereb had intended to contest last month's general election but was too ill
A former PN candidate who had also intended to contest last month's general election died on Sunday.
Josephine Xuereb was raised in Gozo but later moved to Zebbuġ, Malta.
She unsuccessfully contested the 2022 general election and was approved by the PN as a candidate for the seventh and 13th electoral districts for last month's election, but she was too unwell to submit her nomination to the Electoral Commission.
The Nationalist Party paid tribute to her in a Facebook post, saying she had worked hard in the healthcare sector while also being an election candidate and a local election candidate in Zebbuġ.
European Parliament president Roberta Metsola recalled meeting Xuereb just last month. "Despite her hardships, she never let circumstances discourage her. She was there, as always, showing her support and commitment to the Nationalist Party." She said Xuereb saw the good in everyone and left a positive mark with anyone she met.
Former PN leader Bernard Grech praised Xuereb as a positive person who was always full of energy and initiative and ready to offer a helping hand. He offered his condolences.
Marie-Claire Zammit, president of the MNPN, the PN's women's branch, said Xuereb had a heart of gold. "She knew how to love and was loved by many," she said in a Facebook post.
Sweet Valley Family Clinic, where Xuereb worked as clinic manager, said she would be remembered for her loud personality, her full-of-life spirit, her infectious smile, and (very important) a black coffee always in her hands.
"You always knew she was around, because she brought warmth, energy, and laughter wherever she went. She was the kind of person who made the clinic feel like home, even in those early days when we were building everything together. We are heartbroken. We will carry her memory with us always and miss her deeply. Rest in peace "bud" the clinic said in a Facebook post.
