A married couple who used to look after an elderly man who died in an accident in 2009 without leaving a will, were awarded €50,000 in compensation.

Anthony and Rita Brincat filed their claim against the vacant inheritance of Salvatore Grima whom they had taken care of since 1984. It was heard before the First Hall of the Civil Court.

The court said that it was clear from the evidence produced that Mr Grima had been grateful for the services he had received, and had planned to compensate them.
