Għarb issues annual feast publication
The publication features historical, spiritual and cultural writings
The 15th edition of Il-Miżjura, the annual publication of the Għarb parish church, has been launched ahead of the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady on Sunday.
The publication features messages by archpriest Trevor Sultana and mayor David Apap Agius. It also includes the homily delivered by Bishop Anton Teuma during last year’s feast, together with a reflection by the late Bishop Nikol Cauchi on Franġisku Portelli, a pious figure who promoted devotion to Our Lady of Ta' Pinu alongside Karmni Grima, and his witness, as well as an article by Fr Samuel Grech on Portelli and his calling at Ta’ Pinu. Mgr Karm Borg also writes on Ta’ Pinu and the 100th anniversary of the death of Portelli.
Besides, there is a historical overview of Għarb through the years, a parish chronology compiled by the late Canon Provost Salv Camilleri, a study by Mario Fenech on Bishop Mikiel Ġlormu Molina, who established the parish of Għarb, and an article by Toni Calleja on churches in Gozo that have been struck by lightning over the years.
Il-Miżjura is a rich collection of historical, spiritual and cultural writings by, among others, Angelo Xuereb, Fr Frans Bonnici, Matthew Theuma, Fr Matthew Bajada, Sr Lorna Cassar, Joseph Cauchi, Prof. Joseph Galea, Lorraine Bajada, Maxine Debrincat, Salvina Camenzuli, Grezzju Cauchi, Mario and Sara Saliba.
Il-Miżjura primarily translates to “the visit” or “the visitation”. It is the definite form of the noun miżjura (visit), derived from the Arabic root z-w-r (to visit).
