Ħamrun Spartans chalked up their eighth win of the season after defeating St Andrews 3-0, at the Hibs Stadium, yesterday.

The Spartans have now reached the 30-point tally and moved into the top-four spot, two points ahead of Birkirkara who will play Valletta in this week’s highlight game, today.

Meanwhile, St Andrews have drawn themselves into the relegation picture as they remain 10th, on 17 points.

The tone was set from from early stages of the game, as Ħamrun Spartans immediately put their feet on the gas pedal in search of the lead.

They made their pressure count on minute 13, when Domoraud headed home from a corner-kick to put the Spartans ahead.

On the brink of half-time, St Andrews' Martin Davis saw his curling effort block by Sean Cini as the Spartans ended the first-half in advantage.

Six minutes into the second half, Ħamrun doubled the score when Kevin McFarlane seemed to have tripped Domoraud inside the penalty area and Marco Criaco converted from the spot.

In the final quarter of the game, the Saints missed a couple of chances with Kemar Reid, whose shot was blocked by Cini and Alex Satariano who had a close-range header which ended directly into the Spartans’ custodian.

St Andrews were unable to claw their way back into the game as the Spartans held on to their two-goal advantage and move fourth.

Substitute Ryan Darmanin made it 3-0 for the Spartans with a curling effort from close-range in the final stages of the game.

Ħamrun Spartans' Wilfried Domoraud was named BOV Player of the match.
