PIETÀ HOTSPURS        0

QORMI           2

Bangoura 63

Zammit 90

Qormi picked up their first win after 12 successive defeats when they had the better of fellow relegation rival Pieta Hotspurs to keep alive their hopes of avoiding the drop.

The first half was devoid of opportunities, with the best chances coming late on.

Four minutes from the break, Umeh Calistus’s cross-shot was tipped over by David Cassar in Qormi’s goal.

The best chance of the half came Qormi’s way in stoppage time when in a quick raid launched by Manolito Micallef, Freud Gnindokoponou put Bangoura clear but the Qormi striker incredibly fired over with only Nicky Vella to beat.

Pietà showed vast improvement in the second half and on 54 minutes they had a glorious chance to take the lead.

In a quick raid, Gabriel Mensah put Calistus clear but the Nigerian fired wide with only Cassar to beat.

But it was Qormi who took the lead on 62 minutes. Freud Gnindokpnou who picked Bangoura inside the area and the Qormi forward blasted the ball past Vella.

Antonio Rozzi should have killed off the Hotspurs five minutes from time but the Italian striker blasted over with only Vella to beat.

Qormi sealed the points in stoppage time when Romeo Romau picked substitute Iven Zammit who tapped home.

Qormi midfielder Yannick Yankam was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
