Four-year-old boy in critical condition after falling into swimming pool

The incident happened in Marsaxlokk

A four-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a private residence in Marsaxlokk on Tuesday. 

The incident happened at around 11.45am on Triq il-Port Ruman on Tuesday. He was rescued by people on the property and taken to hospital, where he is intensive care. 

A magisterial inquiry is underway. The police are investigating. 

Last year saw two child drowning incidents.

Six-year-old Zaylen Borg drowned in a swimming pool at a private residence in Naxxar after he wandered away from his relatives. Later, in an interview with Times of Malta his mother opened up about the family tragedy and how her son was non-verbal and had autism.

A month later, in July, Noah Mizzi, a 16-month-old boy, died days after he fell into a pool at a residence in Gozo.

The toddler, found unconscious, was assisted by a medical team before being taken to Gozo General Hospital. From there, he was transported by helicopter to Mater Dei Hospital. He died four days later.
