JP2 Cultural Foundation commemorating St John Paul II’s visit to Malta

The foundation is holding mass in Għajnsielem today

The JP2 Cultural Foundation is commemorating the 36th anniversary from St John Paul’s II visit to Malta and Gozo and is invting all communities and locations that hosted the pontiff in 1990 to commemorate in a way or another this historical event.

The localities visited by the pope were Valletta, Attard, Mellieħa, Għarb, Victoria, Vittoriosa, St Julian’s, Ta’ Qali, Rabat, Mdina, Floriana and Luqa.

The commemoration dates this year are May 25 to 27.

The JP2 Cultural Foundation will officially commemorate this event by holding a Eucharistic celebration at St Anthony of Padua church, Għajnsielem, today at 7pm. It will be presided by Bishop Emeritus George Bugeja and will be animated by local soprano Roberta Hili accompanied on the piano by Jennifer Grech.

The event forms part of the JP2 Memorial Festival 2026.
