Labour delegates begin voting on party leadership

Prime Minister Robert Abela, deputy leaders Ian Borg and Alex Agius Saliba seek confirmation under party statute

The confirmation of the Labour Party leadership got underway on Tuesday evening as Prime Minister Robert Abela and the two deputy leaders voted at the end of the first session of the Labour Party’s Extraordinary General Conference.

The general conference is being held according to the party’s statue which states that after every general election, delegates must confirm the party leadership: Abela as party leader, Ian Borg as deputy leader for parliamentary affairs, and Alex Agius Saliba as deputy leader for party affairs.

The conference kicked off on Tuesday evening and will conclude on Thursday.

Voting began on Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday between 9am and 8pm at the PL head quarters as well as at the Labour Centre at Ta’Sannat, Gozo, between 4pm and 7pm.

The vote counting process will take place at the PL headquarters.
