The Labour Party is going against the principle of the people’s independence by cancelling local elections, Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil said today.
Speaking in San Gwann during an activity held as part of the Nationalist Party’s 50th anniversary of independence celebrations, Dr Busuttil said the PN always believed that the country’s independence should also mean the people’s independence through participation, democracy, freedom, education, employment and clean politics in a modern European nation.
But the Labour government, Dr Busuttil said, had cancelled local elections.
During the event Dr Busuttil presented mementoes to former MPs who served in the House during the past 50 years of Malta's independence.
