Limited opportunities for further construction sector growth, says industry

The Central Bank reports on a 'widespread view that the market may have reached its peak'

There is a “widespread view” among those in the construction industry that the market may have reached its peak, leaving limited opportunities for further growth, according to a Central Bank report.

Drawing on responses from 141 construction industry players, the latest Central Bank business dialogue reported that the sector was increasingly showing signs of the construction sector having reached a “plateau”.

The report also noted a “widening imbalance” in property sales and rentals as demand increasingly outpaced supply, with new builds insufficient to ease the pressure.

And with central Malta the most in-demand area, prices in some localities had ” risen beyond what is justified by the quality of the property”.
