'Living a nightmare': Family of tourist who fell to death from balcony open up

'He was a special son,' father tells Welsh-language news outlet

The family of a Welsh tourist who fell to his death from a hotel balcony in St Julian's say they are "living a nightmare".

Kieran Thomas Hughes, 25, was on holiday in Malta with his friends when he fell from a balcony and died. His father, Alan Hughes, said the situation was "unbelievable."

"He was a special son and twin brother," he said.

The family spoke to Welsh-language TV programme produced by the BBC, Newyddion S4C, days after the incident. The family said it wanted him to be remembered as a "happy, loving, full of life" person.

Their priority now was to "work with the authorities in Malta to bring Kieran home to Wales."

Welsh media said the young man studied engineering and worked as a software engineer.

His father also expressed the family's immense gratitude for all the messages and support they received, saying that support from their "community has been incredible."
