A 23-year-old man admitted in court to have committed 12 thefts from the University of Malta library, stealing cash and other items from students, mostly women, between the end of last month and this month.

Paul Sciberras, of Balzan, admitted to having stolen a total of €358 in cash and having attempted a 13th theft, but was thwarted because of circumstances beyond his control.

He was condemned to a six-month jail term suspended for three years.
