A 37-year-old man is in critical condition after leaping into the sea at Ta' Xbiex waterfront and instead landing on rocks. 

The incident happened at around 4pm, police said.

The man, a Serbian national, was rushed to Mater Dei hospital for treatment. 

Magistrate Neville Camilleri is leading an inquiry.
