Momentum says more of its banners have been removed
The party has called the repeated targeting of its campaign materials 'unacceptable'
Momentum has reported a further theft of its election banners, this time in St Julian’s, following the alleged theft of banners from Marsascala over the weekend.
Images of the missing banner posted to the party's website indicate that at least one banner for Momentum candidate Pierre Schembri-Wismayer was removed from railings on a roundabout in the locality.
In a statement, the party said the reported theft from St Julian’s marked the “second such incident in just two days, only days before the election”.
Voters go to the polls on Saturday.
Momentum electoral candidate Mark Camilleri Gambin filed a police report over the weekend alleging his campaign banners had been targeted by thieves, noting that banners from other parties had not been taken.
The party said on Monday that the “repeated targeting of campaign material is unacceptable and undermines the democratic process and the right of political parties to campaign freely and peacefully”.
It called for prompt action, adding that CCTV cameras installed in St Julian’s, where the alleged theft took place, should allow authorities to quickly identify those responsible.
“Momentum reiterates that political intimidation and vandalism have no place in a democratic society.”
The party said it reported the St Julian's theft to the police.
