Momentum unveils campaign slogan

Momentum has unveiled its slogan for the forthcoming general election, following similar announcements from the two main political parties yesterday.

The party will campaign under Bidla ta’ Vera (“Real change”), with the subheading, “For a fair and beautiful Malta, free from control of the major parties and developers”.

The slogan was released on Tuesday morning, set against a background image of the sun rising over a field filled with flora.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Momentum said its slogan was "not about flattery or the promise of a fresh coat of paint on the same old structure".

It stressed that its election platform was grounded in issues that mattered to families, pointing to communities “scarred” by overdevelopment, rising cost of living and a political culture “where access matters more than accountability”.

“These are the problems no amount of catchy slogans will fix”, the party said, in thinly veiled criticism of the Labour and Nationalist parties’ slogan unveiled yesterday.  

The Labour Party will campaign under Int Malta (“You are Malta”) - set against a red background with the subheading “Your dreams, our project”, while the Nationalist Party’s slogan is Nifs Ġdid (“A fresh start”), with the subhead “This is Your Moment”.

Momentum said voters would hear “plenty of slogans and catchphrases” over the campaign.

“They will be told they matter. They will be promised that something new is coming. But slogans that make you feel good are not the same as change that does you good. Malta has heard it all before.”

The party’s chairperson, Arnold Cassola, said voters were tired of being told what they wanted to hear, and did not need another slogan “designed to sound hopeful while everything stays the same”.

“They need leaders who will act – on corruption, on overdevelopment, on the squeeze ordinary families face every month. That is what Bidla ta’ Vera means. Not simply a change of tone. A change of direction.”

Momentum said it would field candidates in all districts across the country while pledging to stand on a platform of democratic reform, environmental sustainability and economic fairness.

Yesterday, the party complained the campaign was “not a level playing field” after one of its banners hung above the Santa Venera tunnels was removed by the Cleansing Department.
