Motorcyclist killed in Mosta collision identified as San Anton Palace employee
Robert Debono is the 17th road fatality this year
Robert Debono, 57, from Mosta, died in a road accident involving a school van on Monday morning.
Sources confirmed to Times of Malta that Debono was the victim of the fatal crash, which happened at around 7am in Vjal il-Qalbiena Mostin. He was riding a KTM motorcycle at the time.
The accident involved a Ford Transit school van, driven by a 65-year-old man from Dingli.
Two schoolchildren were passengers in the van. Neither the driver nor the children were injured.
Debono, who worked as a maintenance employee at San Anton Palace, was well known within the local motorcycling community.
Following news of his death, tributes were paid to him on social media. Many expressed their condolences to his family, describing Debono as a passionate biker and a kind-hearted man.
“He was a good man, and his motorbike was a big love of his,” one commenter said. Another wrote that he was “a gentleman loved by everyone”.
Debono is the 17th person to lose their life on Malta’s roads so far this year, as traffic accidents continue to take a toll.
Police are investigating the crash, and a magisterial inquiry has been launched.
