Noel Apap the only contender in Ħamrun casual election

Ballots will be counted Monday

One nomination has been submitted for the Ħamrun local council election to fill the seat left vacant by Carmen Borg, who stepped down on Tuesday after more than two decades in the role.

In a statement on Thursday, the Electoral Commission said Noel Apap was the sole nominee for the post, with the counting of ballot papers due to take place on Monday at 9am.

Apap contested the 2022 general election as an independent candidate, when he campaigned on a platform focused on illegal migration and construction.

He also contested last year's MEP elections.

Despite being the only candidate, Apap will still need to reach a quota of 272 votes, inherited from Borg's votes in the last election.
