Motorists will be able to ride certain low-powered motorcycles, following training, from January 1.

Transport Malta said yesterday that the motorcycle’s cylinder capacity must not exceed 125cc and has to have a power rating of 11KW or less.

The power-weight ratio for electric motorcycles must not exceed 0.15kW per kilo. The power of motor tricycles cannot exceed 15kW.

Drivers have to train with a certified motoring school for 10 hours, seven of which need to be practical.

The motoring school will issue a certificate and Transport Malta will update the licence.  Drivers will not be allowed to carry a pillion rider.
