PN to launch leadership confirmation process on June 20

General Council will discuss PN's election result before formally triggering the procedure to confirm the current leader or elect a new one

The Nationalist Party will launch the process of appointing or confirming its party leader with a General Council on June 20.

The procedure is in line with the party’s statute following the general election.

The PN Executive Committee, which met on Thursday evening, approved the process which must take place to confirm the current party leader or appoint a new one.

The party’s statue also states that a General Council must be convened within three months of the official publication of the result of the general election to discuss the electoral result.

The General Council will open on Saturday June 20 and will follow the meetings of the PN Regional Assemblies that will be held in Malta and Gozo throughout next week.

A report on the outcome of these assemblies, which will discuss the PN’s electoral result, will also be presented to the party Councillors. The report will be presented by PN President for Political Research Prof. Mary Ann Lauri.

The Council will be addressed by President of the General Council Mark Anthony Sammut, PN General Secretary Charles Bonello, Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione and PN Leader Alex Borg.

The General Council will then entrust the PN’s Electoral, Records and Data Commission to begin the process for the appointment of the Party Leader.
