Four suspects involved in theft, not excluded that they have fled the island

The vehicle allegedly used in a theft from a Floriana jewellery shop has been found in Luqa, according to police sources, as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, sources confirmed to Times of Malta on Saturday that the heist was of around €250,000.

The theft was reported on Thursday 5pm at Victor Azzopardi Jewellers on Triq Sant' Anna in Floriana.

The four suspects - three men and a woman - allegedly entered the shop unarmed and without covering their faces.

Sources said one of the suspects approached an employee outside the outlet, asking for advice on jewellery displayed in the shopwindow, before the others moved in and carried out the theft.

Police told Times of Malta on Saturday that the suspected getaway vehicle has since been located in Luqa.

According to sources, the suspects are believed to be foreign nationals, and it is not being ruled out that they may have already left the island. Should that be confirmed, the police are expected to seek assistance from overseas authorities.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading the inquiry.
