Police officers have begun carrying out spot checks at the homes declared by those affected by quarantine regulations, amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Spot checks are being carried out to make sure that those who should be in mandatory quarantine are following the requirement, the police force said in a Facebook post.
“Following a training session held this morning at the Environmental Health Directorate, police officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, together with the public health officers today started carrying out random inspections at places of residence declared by persons affected by quarantine regulations.”
"We are doing our duties and you should do yours too. Please observe quarantine regulations and take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and that of others."
The country has already closed sea and air connections with Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Switzerland and on Friday imposed a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all people arriving on the island.
It also closed all schools, child care centres and the university to curb the spread of coronavirus.
All travellers arriving in Malta by air and sea are being scanned on arrival, and those found to have a fever are being tested for Covid-19 and taken to an isolation unit.
