The Lands Department this morning continued with its operation to remove 31 illegally-built rooms below the bastions in Marsamxett.

The rooms, some of stone, other of wood or metal sheeting, were illegally built on government land. They are used as seaside rooms, boathouses and for storage.

The owners were handed eviction notices on September 9.

The operation started yesterday and is expected to be concluded today.

The excavated material is being separated on the spot and taken for recycling.
