Sandra Gauci to stay on as ADPD leader after vote of confidence
Gauci had hinted she would call it a day as leader of the Green Party
Sandra Gauci will stay on as chairperson of ADPD after the party’s executive council approved a vote of confidence in her.
She confirmed to Times of Malta that she will remain in her role after her party unanimously approved the motion of confidence her leadership throughout the campaign.
In a Facebook post, she said she was speechless over the amount of support she received from people after the election.
“If you think I’m going to stay quiet and accept what comes without a fight, then you have one coming," she said. "From next Monday, I will continue my work with the people of St Paul’s Bay and assure them that I will remain on the council. In the same way that I will remain chairperson of ADPD.”
Gauci contested the general election with ADPD in the sixth and 12th districts. She received 594 votes in District 6 before she was dropped from the race, while in District 12, she received 950 votes overall.
The night of the election, she said she was satisfied with her campaign but was critical of the gender quota mechanism, which will likely exclude her in favour of Labour and PN candidates who received fewer overall votes than her.
ADPD received 1.3% of the vote in the election, a drop from their performance in 2022, when they received 1.6%.
