Sliema Wanderers brought to a halt their negative run in the Premier League when they eased past Tarxien Rainbows 2-0 at the National Stadium this evening.

After a low-key first half, during which neither side managed to create real scoring chances, the game came to life after the interval. Sliema forged ahead after 62 minutes. Ryan Fenech provided the opener with a moment of brilliance when he unleashed a powerful drive from 35 metres out that flew past Tarxien keeper Anthony Curmi.

The Rainbows were still recovering from this blow when three minutes later Sliema added a second goal. It was Fenech again the architect as the former Hamrun midfielder set up Julio Alcorse who fired the ball home.

Ryan Fenech was voted as the BOV Player of the match.

The most important match today will see league leaders Birkirkara face third-placed Qormi.
