Jurcic: Krunoslav Jurcic resigned as coach of Dinamo Zagreb, just a week after the club won the league title, an official said. Jurcic took over as coach in March 2009 and had won two league titles and the cup.

Cup Cheer: Viktoria Pilsen qualified for European competition for the first time in 39 years on Tuesday when they beat FK Jablonec 2-1 in the Czech Republic Cup final. Victory gave Viktoria Pilsen a spot in the Europa League's third qualifying round.

Pedersen: Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League club. Norway international Pedersen would have been out of contract at the end of next month and had attracted interest from clubs around Europe.

Nigeria: Nigeria will play a friendly against Saudi Arabia on May 25 in Austria, as preparation for the World Cup next month. Nigeria will face Saudi Arabia in Wattens before meeting Colombia in London on May 30. A last preparation match will then be played against North Korea in Johannesburg on June 6.

Olympics: Italy's Olympic committee picked Rome as the country's candidate to host the Summer Games in 2020, after Italy's capital beat the city of Venice in a vote on their bid. The committee gave Rome 9.2 points out of 10, while Venice scored 5.7, failing to reach the 6.0 threshold vote to present the bid.

Basket, NBA: The Washington Wizards have won the NBA's draft lottery and will have the first overall selection in next month's entry draft. The Wizards moved up from the fifth spot, where they had just a 10 per cent chance of winning the top pick. They will likely have to decide between Kentucky freshman John Wall and Ohio State swingman Evan Turner. The NBA draft is June 24 in New York.

Golf: Japan's record-breaking teenage golfer Ryo Ishikawa said he hoped to shatter his own best. The 18-year-old hit a final-round 58 on a par-70 course to win the Japan Tour Crowns on May 2 and Guinness World Records has recognised the achievement as a record on a major tour. "I don't know if I can score better than 58 but I feel like lowering my best score to 57," Ishikawa said.

Rugby Union: France coach Marc Lievremont called up uncapped Perpignan full-back Jerome Porical for a 30-man squad to tour South Africa and Argentina in June. Porical, 24, and 21-year-old Biarritz flanker Wenceslas Lauret are the sole debutants in the squad. France will play South Africa in Cape Town on June 12, an Argentinian provincial selection in La Plata on June 18 and Argentina in Buenos Aires on June 26.

Tennis: Wimbledon appointed its first official poet, a tennis enthusiast who will be holding court every day during the tournament next month. Matt Harvey will aim to capture a flavour of the event with verses published online and in podcasts on everything, from volleys and backhands, to the inevitable rain. Harvey will keep a blog and perform his work to the queues waiting to enter the ground. The All-England Club tournament runs from June 21 to July 4.
