Shearer Testimonial: Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer will donate all the proceeds to charity when he brings down the curtain on his career in a testimonial match against Celtic on May 11. It is hoped the St James's Park game will raise more than one million pounds, the Premier League club said. "It is a great honour and privilege to have a testimonial game at this wonderful club," said the 35-year-old former England captain.

South Africa: South Africa will spend up to 5 billion rand ($810 million) on infrastructure for the 2010 soccer World Cup, the National Treasury said yesterday. South Africa has secured the rights to host the 2010 soccer showpiece and plans to use a maximum of 10 stadiums - five of which will be constructed, with the remainder being refurbished.

Samaras: New Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras has been called up for the first time by Greece for a tournament in Cyprus at the end of the month. The 20-year-old Samaras joined City from Dutch side Heerenveen in a six million pounds move in January. Greece coach Otto Rehhagel selected 10 foreign-based players in his preliminary squad.

Milito: Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito, who put four goals past Real Madrid last week, has been called up by Argentina for their World Cup warm-up against Croatia in Switzerland on March 1. Milito, equal third among Primera Liga scorers with 11 goals, was included in an 18-man squad by coach Jose Pekerman for Argentina's only scheduled friendly before the Germany tournament starting on June 9.
